Bug Description

Description:
Reducing the brightness of the laptop screen using Fn keys on keyboard stops navigation in firefox. Observed it with Kubuntu 8.10, FF 3.0.3

To reproduce:
Open a heavy website in Firefox (perhaps ubuntuforums.org) and while it is loading, *reduce* the screen brightness using brightness keys on keyboard (Fn+F9 in my case). Doing so stops the navigation.

Tested with:
Kubuntu 8.10, KDE 4.1.2
Firefox 3.0.3

please clarify what "stop the navigation" means.

At best provide a clear step by step instruction how to reproduce. Read: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/NormalizedBugFormat

Summary: Reducing the brightness of the laptop screen using Fn keys on keyboard stops navigation in firefox. Observed it with Kubuntu 8.10, FF 3.0.3

Steps to reproduce:
  1. To reproduce, one should first have a laptop, with the concerned version of FF (or newer) installed. The laptop should support changing of brightness using keyboard/dedicated keys. In my case, I use Fn+F9 on keyboard to reduce brightness.
  2. Now launch firefox.
  3. Open a heavy page that would take some time to load at your bandwidth
  4. While the page loads/opens, lower the brightness of your screen using the keyboard keys.

Expected Result:
Reducing brightness should not have any effect on page loading.

Actual Result:
Loading of the page stops immediately on reducing brightness as if the "Stop loading this page" button or the Esc key is pressed. For example, if I press the Esc key while loading ubuntuforums.org, the page loading is stopped and the page pauses at an incomplete loaded position (ie, maybe just the logo managed to load). Same happens on reducing brightness.

Note:
Bug *cannot* be reproduced when reducing brightness using the software control. It appears when using brightness control keys for the laptop.

Hope I could express myself clearly. Thanks :)

cannot reproduce this on my thinkpad. maybe its related to some extension? try to uninstall them to see if that has any influence.

Asked on #kubuntu and was reproduced by one of the users. Also, tested by deleting ~/.mozilla and still can reproduce the bug.

It's a HP nx6320 laptop, with onboard Intel GMA950 graphics and I use the default xserver-xorg-video-intel driver.

not sure where this bug needs to be filed again, but its clearly not firefox. some spurious event most likely. or maybe its mapped to the stop shortcut key.

You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance
