There are two problems here:
-KOConverter is reporting a version of 1.4 even when it's not 1.4.
The KOffice dudes just forgot to bump the version string. This will be fixed in the next release.

But this means that we've had the KDE4 version of koconverter all along which bring us to the second problem:
-KOConverter fails converting following the manpage example.

So if this is still a problem with KOffice2 Beta6 (1:1.9.98.6-0ubuntu1), then this should be forwarded upsteam to the KOffice developers at bugs.kde.org so that they can fix this bug. If you do report the bug, make sure to mention http://bugs.kde.org/183778 so that they don't close it outright due to the version being 1.4.
