Fan on 100% all the time

Bug Description

I've installed Ubuntu 8.10 and all the updates on my Dell XPS M1330 laptop. Now the fan is running on 100% all the time making big noise.

CPU is not running on 100%, noise/fan already starts with GDM.

This only happens if the NVIDIA driver is installed:

I've deinstalled the NVIDIA driver, rebooted -> problem gone
Installed the NVIDIA driver, rebooted -> cooler running on 100%

Ah by the way, could be important: I've used version 177 of the NVIDIA driver as recommended by Ubuntu.

The card is a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
