Bug Description

Binary package hint: udev

I have a problem with my Sony Vaio ns12m. I think udev is kind of stuck in a way that it does note complete drivers loading.

Even a long time after booting, using 'top', udev is usually not idle :
  PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 2301 root 16 -4 2532 1024 400 R 1 0.0 0:18.42 udevd

cpu consumption varies between 1 and 4%.

also, ps aux | grep udev returns two processes:
root 2301 1.6 0.0 2532 1024 ? S<s 20:34 0:07 /sbin/udevd --daemon
root 26080 0.0 0.0 2532 976 ? S< 20:42 0:00 /sbin/udevd --daemon

there are two processed for udev.

when trying to restart the service, I get :
 * Loading additional hardware drivers...

with no [OK].

I also join my dmesg output, just in case...

OK, it seems that the live-cd does not exhibit this behaviour. Proceeding now to clean reinstall.... will bounce back (hopefully to close this bug).

... this was interesting. (currently reinstalling). I found the real issue : udev seems broken when no CD is in the tray. When there is a CD, the system is really idle.
