Bug Description

Binary package hint: hotkey-setup

I purchased a new HP 6730b. The brightness keys (Fn-F9 and Fn-F10) weren't functioning. I modified the hp.hk appropriately.

See the attached diff.

Thanks Scott but in mine HP 6730b with Ubuntu 8.10 and Kernel 2.6.27-7 (or 8) the brightness doesn't change. The display shows the "sun popup" but nothing change in the brightness. This is my hp-hk file modified:

 setkeycodes e001 $KEY_PROG1 # Fn+Escape?
 setkeycodes e008 $KEY_PRESENTATION # Presentation (Misc 1)
 setkeycodes e009 $KEY_BATTERY # Battery
 setkeycodes e00a $KEY_COFFEE # Lock
 setkeycodes e00c $KEY_SOUND # Music
 setkeycodes e00e $KEY_MEDIA # DVD
 setkeycodes e012 $KEY_BRIGHTNESSDOWN # Brightness Down
 setkeycodes e017 $KEY_BRIGHTNESSUP # Brightness Down
 setkeycodes e031 $KEY_HELP # Help
 setkeycodes e059 $KEY_HELP # Another help key

is it correct?

The brightness doesn't change because of <a href="https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xbacklight/+bug/176888">another bug</a>.

Works fine!

$ xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native

 thanks Scott!

I changed the /usr/share/hotkey-setup/hp.hk file and ran the xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native command under Ubuntu and it fixed the issue.

Now I installed Kubuntu Jaunty Alpha 4 and the same solution doesn't seem to work. The /usr/share/hotkey-setup/hp.hk file didn't even exist (when I had Ubuntu, it existed and I just had to add the brightness keys to it).

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Still the same issue in Kubuntu 9.04. hp.hk file doesn't exist, hotkeys don't work, can't set Fn+F9 as shortcut in System Settings because Qt says it's an invalid keystroke. See https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182672 for details.

This appears to be handled now by default in /lib/udev/keymaps/hewlett-packard in Ubuntu 9.10:

0x92 brightnessdown # FnF7 (FnF9 on 6730b)
0x97 brightnessup # FnF8 (FnF10 on 6730b)

Closing as resolved.

Changed in hotkey-setup (Ubuntu):
