system tray widget on desktop, icons disappear

Bug #290518 reported by skotadopsyxos
6
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu)
Fix Released
Low
Unassigned

Bug Description

Removing the system tray from the panel and adding it on the desktop as a widget has two results:
"minor", trying to move the widget around on the desktop leaves the system tray icons on the place they were before
"major", rebooting the computer the widget is empty and the system tray icons are nowhere to be found, the system tray still appears on the widget list as added, programs that start and should have an icon placed on the system tray on close they just get minimized.

kde 4.1.2, kubuntu intrepid rc

I don't really know if it's the right package to complain about so someone who know can assign it better

I see the same behaviour. I want to have the systray in an additional Panel on the right side of the window. When I first inserted the control there, everything was fine. But with the next login the trayicons don't appear anywhere.

i get the icons back in place, after resizing the system tray widget. But it is annyoing to do that at every reboot

On some blog I found a workaround(?) for this:

In my xorg.conf I had the line

    Option "BackingStore" "1"

which I edited to

    Option "BackingStore" "0"

and now everything is fine.

You might give it a try.
