Bug Description

Binary package hint: gconf-editor

In gconf-editor,

/apps/metacity/window_keybindings/activate_window_menu

active_window_menu shows value "<Alt> space". This value actually (also?) controls the "<Alt> right mouse click" keybinding. I was trying to unbind the "<Alt> right click" menu, but I couldn't find it. After some research online i found this thread that answered my question:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+question/2520

gconf-editor should be changed to display the correct (or both?) values for activate_window_menu

gconf-editor 2.22.0
GNOME version 2.22.3
Ubuntu 8.04

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu better. From what I understand, you seem to have a problem with Alt+Right Click being mapped to activate the window menu, and not being user configurable. If that is the case, then this is not an issue with gconf-editor or gconf, but an issue with Metacity itself. What you want is for Metacity to make this keybinding configurable and expose it through GConf.

"activate_window_menu" is unrelated to the window menu coming up with alt+right click. The text is not incorrect. On my system, disabling "activate_window_menu" makes no difference to alt+right click. If it does on your system, that is a bug.

I suggest you change "/apps/metacity/general/mouse_button_modifier" to some other modifier, such as "<Super>" for the Windows key.
