Bug Description

I have compiz fusion on Intrepid, the window list prefs is set to "show windows from current workspace"

from time to time (I did not yet find a situation where I can provoke the behaviour explicitly), suddenly the displayed windows are mixed up.

Examples:
-) Firefox on workspace 1, IntelliJ IDEA on workspace two. If one of the two is maximized, often its icon in the window list is displayed even if I switch to another workspace.

-) Sometimes, the IntelliJ icon disappears, although the window still is visible on the current workspace. Minimizing the window will bring the icon back.

-) Opening a window (e.g. file browser) on a 3rd workspace: The icon is also visible on ws 2, but not on ws 1.

I think I've got the same bug. I've got only 1 workspace (don't like the concept) and I am NOT using desktop effects (compiz). On Intrepid final.

Suddenly Window List looses all windows (becomes empty). If I go to the Preferences and switch to "Show windows from all workspaces", I can see the windows again in the list. Switch back, and they disappear.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

It is reproducable, but I'm afraid not 100%.

1) Make sure your 'Window List Preferences' have 'Window List Content' set to 'Show windows from current workspace'

2) Start opening windows. I was able to reproduce this problem with just Firefix and Console windows. Watch the Window List. At some point, it suddenly all windows disappear from the list.

3) Toggle your 'Window List Content' between the two settings and watch all windows (dis)appear from the Window List.

Regarding my examples 1 & 3 in the bug description, I have to make a correction based on further observation:

It seems that this is not a bug, but only an irritating behaviour: Sometimes if I open an app which was maximized when I last closed it, and the app did not remember the "maximized" state but the position and size of the window, the new window will be slightly misplaced. Therefore, it could "leak" a few pixels into the next or previous workspace, which may or may not clearly visible. Since the window then is partially on this other workspace, too, its icon is displayed "correctly" in the window list.

So, this is NOT a bug (and my description was wrong, because it can be seen on DEmaximized windows which just happen to be nearly as large as if they were maximized).

However, the 2nd example, which is also what Andreas reported, is independent from the other ones. During the last few days, this effect did not reappear, however.
