After successfull installation of Dapper Flight CD 3 on Pentium Celeron 500 Mhz X server failed to start and appeared text dialog about this error. Ubuntu 5.10, Ubuntu 5.04 and SUSE 10.0 haven't this error on this machine.

Why it make no sense? This bug still exits, I can confirm it on Dapper Flight 4 and even on Dapper Flight 5. You didn't see remote bug watcher, where is link on this bug on upstream bugzilla.freedesktop.org, where this bug was reopened?

Petr could post the output of
ls -l /usr/bin/Xorg
to see if john's fix might work.

there is a patch on the upstream bug report https://bugs.freedesktop.org//show_bug.cgi?id=5443

Sam, I will post output of "ls -l /usr/bin/Xorg" later today.

I download, burned and try to use following release on the same machine: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/dapper/flight-6/dapper-live-i386.iso

I tried to boot with defaults settings (I didn't change or set up anything), but after while I could see only text mode (not graphical version of booting process) which end at:

....
Generating locales
  en_USE.UTF-8... done
Generation complete
md5sum: /etc/X11/xorg.conf: No such file or directory

Ctrl+Alt+F2 didn't work and I could only press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to start reboot process. The same CD worked well on another computer. I don't know if it is related to this bug or if I have to open o new one.

X server didn't start but I pressed Ctrl+Alt+F2 and typed following:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ ls -l /usr/bin/Xorg
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1565240 2006-03-23 11:42 /usr/bin/Xorg

I don't know if this can help to fix the bug and I don't know how I can set the correct setuid for Xorg.

Xorg isn't meant to be suid, only the wrapper (/usr/bin/X) should be.

So, AFICT the result of the upstream bugs is the suggestion to:

  "comment out ValidatePci() from xf86Bus.c"

but then the bug is dup'ed to:

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org//show_bug.cgi?id=6750

with a patch for handling Intel PCI-PCI bridges:

The patch suggested upstream, with paths adapted for our source package. Can you build the xorg-server package with this patch and see if it fixes your problem?

Very please fix this bug as soon as possible (ideally before release 6.06 LTS) otherwise I as one of Ubuntu Czech (http://www.ubuntu.cz/) leaders and coordinator of czech translations of Ubuntu will have only very limited opportunity to keepy my work on solid level (without using LiveCD/Desktop CD on other machine outside of my home) :(

This should have been fixed with:

Petr: are you still seeing this problem with the latest dapper (Ubuntu 6.06?)
