firefox showcase extension not working?

Binary package hint: firefox-showcase

After installing the firefox-showcase package from the Intrepid repository there are no new showcase items visible in the View menu under the Sidebar item. According to the documentation, there should be a new menu item.

None of the shortcut keys work either, and many of them conflict with Compiz defaults.
