I've found the way to always reproduce the bug.

Kate always crashes when there's an open ftp connexion in the file system browser when I close it.

Is it an action to be done by me or by an Ubuntu developer (I just begin to report bugs in Launchpad, so I don't know yet its functioning)?

It basically means we take all the best data from the bug report and file a report at the KDE bug tracker, bugs.kde.org.
Anybody can do it.

Will be fixed in KDE 4.2, marking fix committed until kdesdk 4.2 beta1 is uploaded to Jaunty. Unfortunately since it is not known what fixed this we cannot apply a patch to our 4.1.x packages.

The fix has been released in Jaunty. It has also been released in Intrepid the form of KDE 4.2 packages. (See http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.2-beta-2 )
