Bug Description
Installed Ubuntu 8.10 amd64 Intrepid Release Candidate in a VMware Fusion 2.0 VM on my MacBook Pro 4,1 (Penryn). After a successful and uneventful installation the reboot hangs for several minutes with a black screen (except for a static underscore in the top-left corner), then the message "acpid: exiting" appears, after which the reboot or the shutdown is almost immediate. The same happens when rebooting or shutting down from the installed version of Intrepid.
I have already tried the "acpi=off" kernel boot option, but this doesn't change anything. Just for the record: I have two other instances of GNU/Linux installed in parallel VMware Fusion VMs on the same computer: Debian testing (Lenny) and Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.1, with 2.6.26 and 2.6.24 kernels, respectively, all amd64 versions; neither of these identically configured VMs has the above problem. So, I'm inclined to blame the 2.6.27-7-generic kernel of Ubuntu Intrepid.
I have the same problem, but on a regular computer (32bit), I doubt that this has anything to do with the kernel, I'm running 2.6.27-3-rt.
It also hangs when I simply log off.
