Program List Not Properly Populated

Bug Description

I just installed GUFW 0.20.5 and have encountered the following problem:

In the "Preconfigured" tab when I select "Program" in the second drop-down list, the only program available for selection is "Transmission". Transmission is not installed on my system at all (I use Deluge for torrents), and there is no way to add/remove programs from the list.

I was informed that there is a Macro that is supposed to populate this list, but apparently it has not done its job automagically. Do I need to run it manually? Or is there a configuration file I can edit?

Also, if I want to add other programs that are not torrent-related, like a game server (prboom, Urban Terror, Nexuiz, Assault Cube, etc...), an ssh server on a different port than 22, IM clients/servers, or any other application that requires network access how would I go about adding those to that list?

I am running a fully-updated version of Ubuntu 8.04 x86-64. If you need any further information please feel free to ask.

Thanks a lot for the help!

This isn't a bug.

Transmission leaved the configuration files in your home, then Gufw read it, and appear as program.

Please, not edit the configuration file, Gufw read each application.

The applications supported are:
amule
transmission
nicotine
deluge
azureus

For adding others application, you must know the ports and protocols and add it!
Read this manual, please:
http://howtoforge.org/firewall-management-with-gufw-on-ubuntu-8.04

Best regards.

Deluge appears to be on the list now, and transmission (after an rm -rf .transmission) is gone, so good there. Annoying that sudo apt-get purge transmission didn't properly nuke the configuration files...

I looked at that howto linked to above and it didn't actually explain how to add more applications to that drop-down list. It (like the help manual included with the app) just says "You can add preconfigured rules here". Is it possible to create new preconfigured rules?

I know I can just look up what ports the assorted programs use and add each one as a rule, but it would be very convenient if there was an easy way to auto-detect that for any program.

Hi! ;)
No, you can't add new applications, because I use the config file for control the application and dropbox only.
I read each file of the 5 applications, for know what's ports has got it.
The config files of more applications change more, or has a complicate configuration.
If you like some specific program, please say me, and if it's more used, I can create a rule for it ;)

Other question is remember you that you only block incoming traffic! ;)

Thanks very much by the bug and for use Ubuntu :)

Hi, i am having the same problem with seeing only 'transmission' in drop down.
I would like to add linuxdcpp to the list if possible ...
Clearing the drop down menu with sudo apt-get purge transmission did not help ... any help wit that too?
Thanks in advance.

Hi!
Have you got amule, deluge, vuze or nicotine installed and run one time?
Best regards.
