Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz-plugins

I have recently (yesterday) upgraded to Intrepid and since then I have a number of problems with my system. One of them is this:

When I login to ubuntu I enable twinview (I use the restricted nvidia drives, version 177.80 for the Quadro FX570 in my laptop) to use the second monitor. After I have done this I can zoom in on the external monitor, but not zoom out. If I try to zoom at all on the laptop monitor the mouse pointer is moved to the top center of the screen and is sort of locked there. I can move it a bit, but it is frequently reset to this place. So in fact I can't move the mouse pointer for more than about 1cm.

After entering this situation I generally just kill X and the mouse becomes usable again. I used the same plugin in Hardy but never had any problems with it.

Version of ubuntu: 8.10
Version of compiz-plugins: 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4
Version of nvidia-glx: 177.80-0ubuntu2
System: HP Compaq 8510w

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I'm already running Jaunty for some time now and the problem still persists. I just checked it and the enhanced zoom desktop plugin still locks my mouse if I zoom in on the primary screen of my laptop with twinview enabled. I have added a hotkey for a Specific Zoom level of 1 to "fix" the problem when I accidentaly zoom in with twinview enabled, but this is far from ideal. It does unlock my mouse, but zooming still doesn't work. But at least this is better than having to kill X.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 162396, so it is being marked as such. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Please continue to report any other bugs you may find.

I know the other bug appears to be about a different problem but I'm pretty sure once ezoom supports twinview at all this bug will be fixed as well as that one.
