Hi james2432,

Thanks for including an image to demonstrate the issue. Could you also please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Happens for me as well but not only when I go to close the window. Simply clicking on the title bar of a window produces the same glitch. I have noticed a pattern as well. If i repeatedly click on the title bar, then the desktop background, it occurs on every 6th click on the window. Moving the mouse cursor repeatedly over the minimize, restore and close button on an active window also produces the glitch. Further it only occur with some of the themes. For instance the "glossy" theme does not trigger the glitch but the darkroom theme and the human themes all have the glitch. (I did not test them all)

My graphics card is a nVIDIA GeForce 7300Go and I am running the restricted drivers version 177. It is a fresh install and not a dist-upgrade. The problem did not appear in 8.04 on the same machine.

I have not modified xorg.conf or anything like that. I have attached my lspci dump below.

Cheers

as zynaps said above it's not only when I close even hovering over the title bar will cause the bug, I switched to the emerald theme manager since and haven't had any problems/glitches only with the basic/gnome theme manager. 8.04 did not have this bug either

I have the same problem. If I move my cursor to maximize in the title bar, I experience the same glitch. This only started to happen afer my upgrade to 8.10 from 8.04. It must be a compiz problem since this does not happen if effects are turned off.

I have similar problems but with driver 96 and a GeForce TI 4200, so I don´t really know if I should open a new bug or place it here, take a look at my glitches in the attachment.

@ronalith I think you should be opening a new bug because that has to do with the rendering where our bug is the title bar that doesn't work with the gnome human theme

Same problem. I occurs when the window looses focus and the title bar gets redrawn. (NVIDIA card, driver 1.77)

This is kind of weird because I ran fusion-icon to change to compiz/emerald themer, as I went back to the GTK Window Decorator, I no longer have the glitch. I have the human theme, it's no longer glitching for me.

I can easily replicate the problem by opening two windows and clicking back and forth from one to the other when using the Default or the Human theme. However, if I switch to the Clearlooks or Glossy ones the problem disappears.

I have the exact same problem, NVidia card as well!
If I change the title bar theme, the glitching stops for a while, but then comes back again exactly as before!
I had this problem in 8.04 too.

I just wanted to let you all know about this last test of mine.
With the "Default" theme the problem shows up.
If I customize the "Default" theme giving it the window border of the "Glossy" theme the problem disappears.
This make me think that things go as if there's a problem when specific window border styles are redrawn.

rdasilva (rdasilva-acm) wrote :

I just confirmed what Paolo reported. This seems to be a problem with the Window Border behavior in the Human Theme. If you customize the Human Theme and change it's Window Border to Glossy (or any other Theme), the problem disappears.

I think the problem is more general than the Human Theme, I get the same problem by using the Dust theme (are they using the same engine?).

rdasilva (rdasilva-acm) wrote :

I guess that's possible Morten. I don't have a "Dust" Theme in my standard 8.10 installation. But it is a problem with Window Border in some Theme implementations.

Affecting 8.10 with default settings. The title bar randomly disappears and this problem is not limited to any one application or window.

My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 7300GT and I am running the restricted drivers version 177 (Recommended). It is a fresh install of the OS with default settings. This is not a dist-upgrade and the problem did not appear in 8.04 on the same machine.

Wondering what it takes for this bug to actually be confirmed?

I have noticed that the Notification Area 2.24.1 is also affected by this glitch.

After I changed to Glossy the glitch in the title bar and the mis-rendering of the notification bar went away.

its related to u-buntu specifically, the bug doesn't exist with
debian.sid is closest to 8.10. im even running nvidia rivers from nvidia.

'glossy' what? which option?

it was the cups driver driving me MAD.it prints when IT feels like it.
NOT when I tell it to. seems that as well is u-bunt-u related.

Albech's workaround fixed the problem for me. I just customized my theme (which is set to human by default) and set the window border to glossy. Thanks Albech.

I think this big is a duplicate of Bug #297543
The solution for me was using the v180 driver from thomas-creutz's ppa:
