Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic

This is a very werid problem but I will try to explain it as well as I can.

When booting intrepid, the boot its hanging numerous times. The bar just stops moving on the bootsplash bar, until any key is pressed on the keyboard. The strange thing is after booting without the bootsplash doesn't show any errors, its hanging during normal processes like "Starting Hardware Drivers". Any theres no debugging information so I'm pretty much clueless on how to get to the bottom of this.

Unfortunately, I'm away from my intrepid setup so I cant post any of the logs asked for here [1] but I will later.

Feel free to ask for any other information.

Thanks

Hi Russell,

Can you comment which specific kernel version you are using? ie 'cat /proc/version_signature' . There have been other reports like bug 263059 which were resolved with the 2.6.27-7.12 kernel. But without any additional information as outlined in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies it's hard to determine what the origin of the issue is. Thanks.

I am experiencing the same situation on an HP Pavillion notebook.
I updated from kubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 shortly before 8.10 was released and have applied all updates since.

It is worth noting that the boot process does not *always* hag at the *same* points. I can always get the system up, eventually by repeatedly pressing keys such as enter, ctrl and/or alt.

Screen output nearly always halts on things concerning drives ([S]ATA, cdrom, also sata connections that are actually not used by any existing devices).

Hi Joschi,

This actually appears to be a duplicate of bug 272247 so I am marking it as such. Bug 272247 has already been triaged and assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team. Please continue to follow up with this issue at that bug report. Thanks.
