For what it's worth, the Debian tex team has abandoned texlive 2008 and is now working on packaging texlive 2009.

Better to package texlive 2009 and skip 2008.

Am I right that since it is not packaged in Karmic Ubuntu users will not get it the easy way until at least April 2010 when it might be packaged in Lucid?

Texlive 2009 has entered into debian experimental, and when will it reach into ubuntu?

@Mingming: it should be synced after texlive reaches Debian testing, hopefully it wll do so before Feb 11 (LTSDebianImportFreeze)

Good luck. I will upload to Debian/unstable these 2 days, then hell
will break loose. And since it is only me actually *coding* around
problems I am not sure if we can make transition to testing till 11. Feb.
I hope so, but you never know.
