The pointer capture applet causes apps and tasks that rely on keyboard shortcuts to stop working properly.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Click on pointer capture applet
2. Press alt+f1 to access the gnome menu && keyboard stops working here

1. Click on pointer capture applet
2. Press super+space to access gnome-do
3. Gnome-do starts very slowly and doesn't accept keyboard input

thank you for your bug report, what is this applet exactly? could you make a screenshot showing it? it doesn't seem to be one of the gnome-applets set

not sure what software that is but that's not a gnome-applets applet and not in the standard ubuntu installation

It's in the standard installation. If you right click your panel and select "Add to Panel," you're taken to the selection box I have in the screenshot above. Double-click on "Pointer Capture," and you'll have added the green box on your panel. I put it under gnome-applets because it is a tool that can only be run on the gnome-panel and nowhere else - that's the definition of an applet [at least the one found in Help (yelp)].

The binary package that contains this applet is called mousetweaks and I can confirm the bug on Intrepid 8.10.
