Try suspend and resume from the recovery mode root shell and unload any modules:

$ for i in $(lsmod)
do
sudo modprobe -r $i
done

Run this several times to get a minimal amount of modules. Save the output of lsmod and run
$ sudo pm-suspend

See if this works.
