Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

1) When i try to make new bookmark by dragging site icon from address bar, a tooltip appears: "This site is verified by: ... " for HHTPS sites and "This site does not supply identify information" on non-encrypted HTTP. It appears instantly after I start dragging, thus preventing to drop bookmark into Bookmarks toolbar.

2) After dragging site icon and dropping to itself, site icon becomes undraggable.

I cannot reproduce this. for me the identificatio narea only pops up
when i release the mouse button. for dragging i keep the mouse
pressed.

Maybe some extension interferes here. Try to disable those or provide
better instructions to reproduce.

I can reproduce part 1 of this bug. I've tried disabling all firefox extensions as well as disabling compiz/desktop effects and the tooltip bug persists.

Ubuntu 8.10 amd64
firefox 3.0.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2

Steps to reproduce:
 * browse to any website
 * quickly drag the site icon (to the left of the http address) across the address field to the bookmarks toolbar, and hold the cursor here without releasing the button

expected result:
bookmark can be dropped into the bookmarks toolbar by releasing the mouse button

actual result:
quite often the tooltip that would appear when hovering over the site icon appears. The placement is such that it obscures the bookmark toolbar and often will not allow dropping of the bookmark in the desired place.

The tooptip seems to appear somewhat erratically and occasionally shows the full site address in stead of the security info that normally appears.

Both speed of dragging, and the actual dragging path seem to affect whether or not the tooltip appears, and what info it has.

My bookmarks toolbar is full of bookmark folders, but this doesn't appear to affect whether or not the tooltip appears.

Attaching a screenshot and marking confirmed.

note: in these screenshots the cursor appearance is incorrect - it is actually the dragging hand link icon that you normally get. I had to use a timed screenshot to get it, as taking a screenshot via the printscreen button was not possible while dragging the link. This seems to have replaced the actual cursor with the default one in the screenshots...

Today I reproduced this bug even in Windows version of Firefox.
It was in Firefox 3.0.3 under 32-bit Windows XP. Sorry, I have not tested this in latest 3.0.4. Ubuntu Intrepid also includes only 3.0.3, not 3.0.4.

P.S. If current page is on HTTPS, this tooltip does not appear.

Sorry, on HTTPS there is another tooltip. But maybe delay before it appears is more.

If you click the star symbol on the other end of the address bar, a bookmark is automatically created.

Having a (much less convenient) workaround for this bug does /not/ invalidate it. I have to disable browser.chrome.toolbar_tips to be able to drag a URL to the desired place without being hindered by the annoying tooltip that appears when hovering/clicking on the location favicon.
