[Intrepid] Booting up freezes every second or third boot

Bug Description

Samsung Q35 laptop

Every second or third boot (mostly every second boot), the boot hangs at the first 8th of the progress bar on the splash screen.

How do I make it boot without the splash screen so that I can see what is hanging? Or is there a log I can attach here?

Hi,

If you get the grub menu (with the list of kernels to choose from)
and press "e" you will be given a screen to change boot options.
If you go to the long line (probably the second of four) and press
"e" again you will be given a cursor to edit the options. All you do
is find and delete "splash" which will give you the text boot. Deleting
"quiet" will print more messages. You then press "enter" and then
"b" to boot.

Could you also post the output of "lspci -vvnn" so that we can see
what hardware you have, and "lsmod" so we can see what drivers
are in use.

Thanks,

James

I've just shutdown and booted 3 times without splash and quiet but, of course, now it's booting without any problem! I'll keep trying and making a note of when it does happen.

Hi Laura,

My guess is that you are hitting bug 263059, which as you can see
is quite well know, but unfortunately no-one really seems to know
the cause yet.

Does that sound like your bug? If you manage to get a hang without
the splash screen then it will probably be easier to tell.

Thanks,

James

It does sound like my bug. Enough that it's probably worth marking as duplicate and I'll keep trying to get more info.
