Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

A pptp connection that was working with network-manager stoped working after the last update (in Intrepid).
I f I disable nm and setup the connection by hand using iwconfig + pptpsetup, then the connection works without problem.

The error message is "The VPN connection 'ConnectionName' failed because there was no valid VPN secrets.

I have double checked that the vpn user and password as well as the connection parameters are correct (plus they work with pptpsetup).

New install and same problem. No settings changes help. It never even touches the remote VPN, and nothing is in the remote logs. Reproducable if you want me to try anything.

It seems to be a bad interraction with gnome-keyring-daemon somehow...
I found the following workaround :

1) stop NetworkManager and kill nm-applet
2) Launch seahorse. In the tab "Passwords" there should be an entry of the form:
VPN password secret for CONNECTIONNAME/org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.pptp/vpn

where CONNECTIONNAME is the VPN connection which is failing. Delete this entry.

restart networkmanager and nm-applet.
3) Edit the parameters of VPN CONNECTIONNAME but leave the password field blank.

4) Connect to VPN. A dialog box pops up and ask for the VPN password. Put it. The connection should work again
(at least it works for me).

The workaround works for me too.
