Network Manager blocks network connection when starting openvpn

Using Hardy 64 bits, when connecting to Openvpn (nm-applet), all network connection drops (no connection to internet or intranet).
Using openvpn in command line (sudo openvpn config_file.opvn) works ok: compared both the standard openvpn client conf file and the one Network Manager generates and I don't see difference at all. This bug seems related to bug #106819 although this one is reported as fixed and caused by openvpn: something I cannot reproduce.

Please let me know if you need additional info, I will provide it as soon as posible.

Just to let you guys know, I tried with HH 32 bits and the problem exists in this version too.

please test whether the intrepid packages in https://edge.launchpad.net/~network-manager/+archive PPA help you.

Will check in the next few days and let you know what happens.

I have a doubt though: Can I use the Hardy ones? I'm afraid something will break if a use packages from other release.

For an unrelated issue I upgraded to Intrepid so I give openvpn-network manager a try. I can confirm I can connect with my server and I still have normal [intra|inter]net connection.
In my particular case, Network Manager works ok.
