Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

During a gutsy to hardy upgrade, i find out that my users are not added into the "fuse" group, and that this was the reason why i could not see anything under ~/.gvfs ... (cf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/279139)
However, this is the default behavior on a fresh install.

Could you add automatically the users into the fuse group ? Or ask with a prompt ?

Hi,

The directory contain the folowing files :
/var/lib/update-notifier/user.d/firefox-3.0-restart-required
/var/lib/update-notifier/user.d/firefox-restart-required
/var/lib/update-notifier/user.d/fuse-utils-needs-users-added-to-fuse-group
/var/lib/update-notifier/user.d/user-must-execute-asoundconf-set-default-card

The fuse file contains :
---- begin ----
Name: Using userspace file systems
Priority: High
Terminal: False
DontShowAfterReboot: True
Description: FUSE is a powerful facility that allows users to
create userspace file systems. It can be used for applications
ranging from digital cameras through online photo-sharing to
compatibility with Microsoft Windows file systems.
 .
By default, only the first user is allowed to work with
fuse-based file systems. To grant access to other users,
add them to the 'fuse' group.
------ end -----

However, I remember I have see the firefox popup notification, but i'm not sure if I have see any other ... (Even if I might have ignored the fuse message, by ignorance ...)

Could you please attach ~/.upate-notifier/hooks_seen ? that has the information if you have seen it or not :)

I agree that it should have been done automatically or presented in some better way than a noticifation.

This ticket is tagged gutsy2hardy, an upgrade path that is no longer supported. Is there still anything left that needs to be done in a later release?
