this continues to occur. every time one opens kopete, clicks settings, then configure.. then the window pops up.. one mouses over the various selections on the left, and the drop shadow follows accordingly for about 5 seconds, and then soon enough, the background windows go dark/shadowed (as if freezing), and the program freezes completely -- only to be rectified by a kill signal from the cli..

I have this problem as well: attached is the output on the console when I ran kopete. it doesn't crash or spit out much output till i went to Configure then all the output and the window freezes, have to terminate.

i don't have a webcam. I tried deleted the kopeterc and kopete directory in the ~/.kde/share/apps to see if it was a config problem due to upgrading, still happens for me though.

I have default upgrade to 8.10 with ATI fglrx drivers. I do have a TV-tuner card installed.

Also, still exists for me in 4.1.3. Do you have a TV-tuner card or webcam on the computer? It only crashes like this on the one computer I have that has a webcam, and all the messages about Video (specifically a V4L device, which I know is my TV-tuner) make me think that's the problem.

I believe I found the bug upstream for this, at bugs.kde.org, at least for those experiencing this because of video settings making it crash.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161536
I thought there was a way to link a bug to upstream, but perhaps not.
Let's dedicate this bug to those who have the crash due to Video problems (which as far as I can tell is everyone here). If your crash is not due to webcam/video/tv-tuner issue, check for/file a separate bug.

logitech quickcam, does not work with V4L either.. Haven't tried the
cable cards yet..
