Bug Description

Binary package hint: util-linux

Ubuntu 8.04 creates /dev/rtc; Ubuntu 8.10beta seems to be creating /dev/rtc0. vmware workstation 6.5 wants to see /dev/rtc. Should rtc be symlinked to rtc0, or something?

I'll confirm that vmware workstation 6.5 complains about Ubuntu 8.10beta's lack of /dev/rtc. While the right answer might be to report a bug with vmware, the easy fix would be to have Ubuntu symlink the file.

What if you have two RTCs? Is there any guarantee that which one is /dev/rtc0 on one boot won't be /dev/rtc1 on the next? This could be dangerous

Is not this bug a duplicate of #252924 ?

For my side it's not a duplicate, only a relationship.
 #252924 provides the symlink,

With Vmware there is this new problem with the symlink or else

Problem still exists with Karmic 9.10
