Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-plasma

In Kubuntu 8.10, the "add widgets" menu of the bottom bar (plasma?) has white text on white background.
Moreover, the icons are not shown.
So, basically, you have to "blindly" click and check what shows up.

Not confirmed.

Actually. The whole desktop is rendering completely wrong. What graphics driver/chip are you using? Can you think of any change that would cause this? Does this also happen with a new user?

I have an ATI video chip, and use fglrx.

The most obvious change seems indeed be my "up"grade to 8.10... Before the upgrade, with 8.04 and kde3, all was fine and dandy.

Yes, this also happens with a new user (this screenshot is from a newly created user).

Please try tif the issue also appears with the free ATI driver instead of fglrx.

Nope, it also happens with the VESA driver and with the ATI driver

Do you have by any chance desktop effects turned on?

This was a default installation. No idea whether desktop effects were turned on, or how to check it.

Btw, shouldn't this be reason enough to have any funny effects turned off by default?

Usually the effects ought to be turned off if your card is listed in a blacklist, it's possible that yours is still missing there.
