Bug Description

I just installed Ubuntu 8.10 the latest build but can't get any sound with audiophile 2496.
All I get is following error:
audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=music: Could not open audio device for playback

even though the card shows active in the icon in the panel.
I had no problem with 8.04.

Update:
Sound card is regonized by Ubuntu and I am able to get sound with VLC player.
However, I get the same error message when going to System>Preferences>Sound>Test.
