Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

When using system-config-printer to manage printers, if you click the New Printer button, cups begins to search for printers, but the 'Please Wait - Searching' dialog stays open forever, as there is a bug somewhere causing cups to be unable to discover printers. I can never get past that step, as the search for printers never completes. This is NOT a bug within system-config-printer because when using the cups web interface, you are unable to detect new printers as well. This problem also occurs when running system-config-printer as root.

Removing the pvrusb2 kernel module fixes the problem.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Symptoms of the underlying bug still exist, but it is not a problem with cups, rather the kernel and the USB system. Marking as invalid.

Hi Stephen,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 282999

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
