Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I use the newest version of kubuntu. The firefox I'm using should be up to date too (I'm sorry, I don't know the current version-numbers)

Since he last update of firefox (a few weeks ago, at the end of september) firefox crashes directly after starting. When I try to open it from the terminal I get the following information:

The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 5427 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Locking assertion failure. Backtrace:

I would not like to reinstall firefox unless there is a (simple) way of saving my bookmarks and passwords without opening firefox (beacause this ain't possible). I would be happy if you could help me.

thanks in advance

your firefox user stuff (bookmarks etc) is in "~/.mozilla/". Back up that directory. A removal of FF should not remove your user config, back up is to be on the save side.

Thank you for this advice. If there is no other solution I will do that.

After reinstalling firefox 3 it still doesn't work. The interesting part is: firefox 2 works! But as I would like to use the newest version (for security reasons) and because with firefox 2 I can't accept some certificates this is no real solution...
