Problem seems to be with the Cover Switch effect. Crash occurs every time with that effect, stops happening when I switch to a different alt-tab effect, or disable them all.

Could you follow the instructions here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash to try and get a better backtrace? Installign kdebase-workspace-dbg from the normal repos should be sufficient here. Thanks.

Installing kdebase-workspace-dbg didn't give me a better backtrace, unfortunately. From the .crash file:

Oh well, as long as you have the -dbg package installed you can use gdb to get the backtrace manually: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace

Though we're in deep doo-doo if we cant get anything from gdb.
