Bug Description
When I installed from the Kubuntu Intrepid Beta 64-bit CD, everything seemed to work fine.
However, I have installed all the updates in Synaptic, and this has broken something.
When I try to shut down the system, KDE shuts down OK, and I get a console window giving me the details of various other things that are shutting down. At the top, I can see “usplash: setting mode 1152x864 failed”. There are various other lines, and then it hangs on “* Shutting down ALSA”.
At that point, hitting Ctrl-Alt-Backspace seems to kick it into finishing its job, sometimes. It then proceeds to the Usplash screen with the Kubuntu logo, and eventually shuts down, but immediately restarts.

Oops, I meant to say Ctrl-Alt-Del.
In any case, I have now reinstalled with the 32-bit edition of Intrepid, and all is OK.
