Bug Description

Binary package hint: libplasma2

I'm using kubuntu intrepid with KDE 4.1.2

I tried importing photos from two canon cameras (Pwoershot S1); however they were not detected by the new device notifier. I was able to import the photos easily using dolphin or F-Spot (presumably digikam would also work but that somehow got uninstalled when I upgraded from Hardy remix to intrepid). However, it would be better for a newcomer if it was more obvious how to access the camera (a popup saying open camera in Dolphin would be great), and secondly once I had mounted the volume, there was no obvious way to unmount it in KDE: in the end, I used nautilus.

I confirm this bug. If I attach my canon PowerShot A720 I see:

Dec 15 22:30:12 casa kernel: [ 1114.876039] usb 5-8: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11
Dec 15 22:30:12 casa kernel: [ 1115.035633] usb 5-8: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

In /var/log/messages, but nothing happens in KDE (I would expect a "new device" popup).
However I can correctly download images with Digikam, just gone in "Import".

Confirm that this is also the case with kde 4.2 beta 2 and canon ixus 85

I have the same problem with Intrepid and different Canon cameras (IXUS 800 IS, IXUS 860 IS).

Is there another way to mount camera devices as a workaround ?
Not being able to unload my camera at all is really annoying.

@aurelien
as I wrote, I can import photos from the camera using Digikam.
There is an "Import" menu, where I found my camera and I was able to see and import all the photos.

That did the job, thank you !

According to the report at bugs.kde.org this should be fixed in KDE 4.2 final. Please reopen if this is still a problem in KDE 4.2.0 or higher.

I'm running KDE 4.2 on Intrepid via the Backports/ppa's (I'm not sure which, I have both repositories enabled). The last time I used my camera, which was after 4.2 final came out, I was asked whether I wanted to download the photos with digikam (I'm also asked this whatever media I insert, which is somewhat annoying). However, there still seemed to be no way to unmount the camera via plasma after I had downloaded the photos (the eject button didn't appear in the new device notifier, neither could I unmount the device in Dolphin). As before, I had to use a GNOME application. I don't plan to upgrade to jaunty until after the beta is released, and I'll try to remember to check this bug again then.

Yes it works for me too.

I would say the mount/unmount problem is something else.
In fact the camera is never "mounted" and you can't access it via Dolphin for example.

There's a KDE bug against this specific problem :
