More recent tmp file is attached. Errors involve ispell.el and flyspell.el. Installed dictionaries-common and dictionaries-common-dev but with no effect.

The missing files:

/usr/share/emacs22/site-lisp/dictionaries-common/debian-ispell.el
/usr/share/emacs22/site-lisp/dictionaries-common/ispell.el
/usr/share/emacs22/site-lisp/dictionaries-common/flyspell.el

are all symbolic links to non-existent files in a non-existent directory:

/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/dictionaries-common/

I created this directory and copied over ispell.el.tgz and flyspell.el.tgz from:

/usr/share/emacs/22.1/lisp/textmodes/

and unpacked them. After doing so, ran install emacs22 and the only remaining error was the one for debian-ispell.el.

I can't find this file on my file system or via Google. Is there a configuration file that looks for this that could be changed?

In the end I got it to work by cheating: I copied ispell.el in /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/dictionaries-common to debian-ispell.el and the byte compilation went forward.

The directory /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/dictionaries-common/ and its contents are supposed to be installed by the package 'dictionaries-common'. On my system:

/usr/share/emacs22/site-lisp/dictionaries-common/debian-ispell.el -> /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/dictionaries-common/debian-ispell.el

And all is well.

do you have the package 'ispell' installed? or perhaps you removed it but not purged?

Hello,

Sorry for my late answer. It seemed to be related to a defunc package.
After a "complete" removal of emacs & new install, the problem
disappeared (one of the dependence was probably corrupted). I forgot to
clear the bug notification, sorry for that.
