Bug Description

I just upgraded to Intrepid Beta and found that the Media keys on my laptop, like the Vol up/Dn, Play, Pause does not work anymore. Please let me know what more information you would require. These keys were funtioning flawlessly from the time I installed Ubuntu on this machine more than a year back :-)

Thanks.

Same issue with my Dell Inspiron E1705. They work in Hardy, but not in Intrepid. I also will provide any information you would need, but not sure where to start.

Hi Guys,

This looks like it might possibly be related to (or a duplicate of) bug 269951 and bug 278839 . Care to take a look.

All the media and Fn+F# keys work for my laptop(same as bug reporter's, a Dell XPS M1210), EXCEPT the Fn+F1 (Hibernate), Fn+F5 (Scroll Lock) key combos.

Forgot to mention that the battery info key (Fn+F3) also doesn't work, all the keys worked perfectly on Ubuntu 8.04.1 AMD64.

Hi!

Could you please post the output of the following command:

ls -l /etc/rc*.d/S*hotkey-setup

Then please try this:

sudo mv /etc/rc2.d/S20hotkey-setup /etc/rc2.d/S29hotkey-setup

Reboot, then test your hotkeys again. This worked for me.

Can someone please test this on a fully updated Jaunty installation? The architecture for all hotkeys has been properly defined and implemented recently in Jaunty, so it is expected that everything working there.

If you still have trouble in current intrepid (with -updates) or jaunty, can you please do the steps in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting to find out how the keymap in hal-info should be done? We need a scan code -> key symbol mapping, e. g. "130 -> brightnessdown". Thanks!
