Tried to remove the previous kernel-release, but got an error-message at removal.

This one has an easy explanation, I was out of disk space on /.
Perhaps this bug-report should be about apt handling this situation more elegantly? Or is that a mere wish?

I had the same problem. A warning about low disk space and maybe an option to clear out unnecessary .deb files would be very useful.
