unable to log into kubuntu 8.10 beta via KDM

Bug Description

Upgraded to Kubuntu 8.10 Beta from latest 8.04. OS boots up but when I attempt to log-in via KDM I am returned back to the original screen after a couple of seconds, i.e. I do not get access to my desktop.

I have just downloaded the latest Kubuntu 8.10 Beta ISO and have tried to run it in 'LIVE' mode. Again I am unable to get into the desktop environment. The KDM splash screen keeps restarting over and over again.
