I would like to correct my report. I get this bug independent of what I enter into the deskbar. It has become very unusable. Sigh, I have been forced to use alt-f2 for the past few hours.

Thank you for your bug report, do you have a proxy configured? the crash is similar to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476730

upstream bug comment

"Seems that you use a proxy that requires authentication but you haven't
supplied username and password."

is that the case? do you still get the bug?

As a workarround, If I disable any extension using internet, it works properly, so I'm sure it has to do with the proxy (I use a proxy at work; at home I don't and it works fine althought I had enabled internet-extensions like google search and wiki suggestions).

I think that the crash is gnome bug 569260, which should be fixed in gnome 2.26 (ubuntu 9.04). However, the fix does not let the networking extensions authenticate to proxies when they couldn't before. It just prevents a crash in that situation.

So I suspect that in 9.04 the networking extensions will not crash but still will not work.
