Intrepid (and Hardy) install CD's fail to boot on Thinkpad

Bug Description

I downloaded the 7th October daily build ISO of Intrepid, checked the md5sum, burned it to disk, and tried to boot. I then got the following error:

ISOLINUX 3.63 Debian-2008-07-15 isolinux:
Cannot boot from this CD. Please try a BIOS update.

So, I went back to a Hardy install CD, hoping to network-upgrade. And I got exactly the same thing (with a different date on the message, obviously). In the end I had to go back to a Gutsy install CD to get a CD that was bootable. This is on a Thinkpad T60P (model 2007-AE7) with a Matsushita UJ-842 multi-format DVD writer. The Thinkpad is running the latest available BIOS (v 2.22, dated April 2008).

What additional information do you need me to provide to help to debug this?

Reconfirmed with the Intrepid Ibex i386 alternate install CD. No change in symptoms; ISOLinux loads from the MBR, but fails to start the Intrepid Installer. To install Intrepid on my (2 year old) laptop, I currently have to install Gutsy, and network upgrade to Hardy and then Intrepid :(

Hardy has reached end of life. Have you had this problem on 12.04 or later?
