Same for me, updated 8.04 to 8.10 and OS won't shut down or restart, always hangs on ALSA. Otherwise all sound works normal.

I have an Acer Aspire 5670 Laptop, the sound card is something from Intel, Device Manager sees it as ALC883.

Same with me.(both on my Dell Optiplex 745 and on my Albacomp laptop with a Clevo motherboard. And this notebook has never had any problems with any earlier distros of Ubuntu!) I experienced this shutdown failiure only since the last phase(s) of Interpid. The beta versions (or even the alpha 5-6) of 8.10 worked fine. All the more annoying that it's the final version of the latest distribution
that wont work!
(On a Lenovo 3000 N200 notebook however it works all right.)
Any help would be appriciated.
