Binary package hint: network-manager

On intrepid, most of the time I get a maximum network speed of around 100kb/s over my wireless connection, while it should be able to do something like 700-800kb/s. Other pc's on the network have no problem achieving this speed and this pc neither running under windows.

NM reports a 54mbps network connection.

My friend had the same problem because the driver you are using sets the minimum speed rate to the device by default.
Try this command in a console and please tell us if it has worked for you. Thanks!

sudo iwconfig ath0 rate 54M

Yes,

  sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M

solves the problem here too.

Any way to do that automatically?

Gabriele

As far as I know, network-manager doesn't support scripts so I don't know how do to it to be automatic.
The best for you would be opening a new 'Question' about it (well, search first..), then please post here the link to it so that it can also help other people.

I solved that issue for me in a different way:
+ right-click on networkmanager to open 'edit connections'
+ edit the network connection of your choice (in doubt edit one after another)
+ set the MTU not to 'automatic' but to '1492' (this usually is the right one, I don't know how to determine the correct one if isn't, maybe somebody else can help here)
+ enjoy speed!

@Wouter: Is this fixed in Ubuntu 12.04?

Does krafel's trick (comment #6) work for you?
