wired network disabled in NetworkManager after resuming from suspend

Bug Description

The wired controller is disabled (grayed out so it can't be clicked) in the nm-applet after resuming the laptop from suspend. Attempting to secure a DHCP offer via terminal (e.g., 'sudo dhclient eth0') fails, though the network lights on the hardware are physically on.

To get the networking to function again I need to reload the kernel drivers by doing the following:
sudo modprobe -r et131x
sudo modprobe et131x

I have a Ethernet controller: Agere Systems ET-131x PCI-E Ethernet Controller (rev 02)

I too tested this issue in my acert laptop (08:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5787M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02). The bug happens at around 1/3 of the suspends/resumes and if I do
ifconfig
I only see the "lo" interface. If I connect my cell-phone with a usb cable to start my gprs Internet connection, nm-applet doesn't do anything and the usb0 interface doesn't appear. If I do
ifconfig usb0
usb0 appears but with no ip (nm-applet still remains in network disabled state).
To resume the normal state of my PC I rebooted it (I haven't tried any "rmod/modprobe")

I see this same problem with a newly upgraded Ibex, but with both the wired and wireless connections. Even attempting to run wpa_supplicant by hand on the command line won't work. I have to reboot the machine to get the networking back.

assigning to the network-manager package

philip, i suspect you'd be able to bring the interface up after resuming also by typing "sudo ifconfig eth0 up", instead of removing and adding the kernel module... can you please confirm?
thank you, and good luck

by the way, let me note that this bug report is a mess:
- philip has an Agere ET-131x
- marco has a Broadcom NetLink BCM5787M
- michael has an nVidia nForce2 and an Atheros AR2413

Removing and adding the kernel module (for me cdc_ether as I don't use my Broadcom for the Internet connection but I use a cell phone) doesn't run for me.
Next time I will try "sudo ifconfig usb0 up" as asked by Dimitrios.

Guys,
Did you just try to reload NetworkManager? /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart
I suspect it would help, because it's crashing with segfault during resume process

I invoke NetworkManager directly when this occurs. After a few seconds,
nm-applet shows that it is trying to connect again.

Tested always with Hardy.
