Bug Description

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu.

Intrepid Beta release live cd

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.
3) What you expected to happen

To have a network connection

4) What happened instead

Does not find my ethernet controller: (output from 8.04.1)

00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection (rev 02)

In this:

Dell Dimension 9200

This is an incredibly common machine and network chipset.

Looks like this is an e1000 based chipset. disabled in the beta?

Your 82566DC is not "e1000", it is "e1000e".
