This worked without any configuration in hardy i386, but doesn't work in intrepid i386 using the following kernel:

2.6.27-5-generic

Thanks, Tom

On plugging the device in I get the following in /var/log/messages:

Oct 6 23:16:24 hurlyburly kernel: [ 5901.854455] gspca: probe ok

Sample output from the "cheese" application shows it's not working (the previous images are from running the application under hardy.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add the output of dmesg after trying to use cheese? Additionally, the specific kernel version that you are using would be helpful. You can find out via 'uname -a'. Thanks in advance.

This is the output of dmesg after plugging in the webcam. Opening cheese didn't add any new content to it:

[ 2154.820179] usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
[ 2155.016244] usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

[ 2155.489598] usbcore: registered new interface driver spca561
[ 2155.489605] spca561: registered

And here's the kernel info:

$ uname -a
Linux hurlyburly 2.6.27-6-generic #1 SMP Tue Oct 7 04:15:04 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Thanks, Tom

As I understand part of the driver moved into the libv4l package. This is not yet available for Intrepid, however a PPA version of the package is available at:

https://launchpad.net/~kees/+archive

Could you install libv4l from there and then try launching cheese the following way:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so $(which cheese)

Thanks in advance!

That works. Get a lot of the following messages:

(cheese:14543): GStreamer-WARNING **: pad video_source:src returned caps which are not a real subset of its template caps

Will this be making it into intrepid? Would like to remove the PPA and package if I can.

Thanks, Tom
