Bug Description

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

As of now (Intrepid Beta 8.10), the Private directory gets a shiny icon on the desktop. Unfortunately, it is always on the desktop and is in fact impossible to remove. Why can this icon be turned off? This seems intuitive, especially for people who
a: don't like desktop icons cluttering the workspace (but do want to see mounted directories)
or b: don't want to declare to the world that they have a Private directory.

The current workaround is to disable the icons for all future mounted directories.
$ gconftool-2 -s --type bool /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible false

This is less than ideal, as users such as myself will want to see other directories that we mount.

Changed to confirmed, There shouldn't be any need to visible show hidden folder.
Also automounting it in login, is unneeded behaviour, security risk IMHO.

i'm sure it is a way to hide it. Simply because we don't see in the desktop the /proc filesystem

I'm marking 'Invalid' against ecryptfs-utils, and adding a task against gconf2.

ecryptfs-utils has nothing to do with the desktop icon. It simply establishes a mount point. The desktop then adds icons for dynamic mounts. Perhaps the desktop team has a way to blacklist the ~/Private mountpoint?

To the question about automounting on login, that is a key design point. You can change this deleting ~/.ecryptfs/auto-mount.

the issue is not a gconf one but a gio, gvfs, nautilus wishlist and there is already a bug about that
