Could you add the mysqli driver since mysql-4.1 is present in ubuntu.

Thanks

I second this, mysql 4.1 and 5.0 are in dapper, which makes it very handy to have a php5-mysqli ;) More info: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-75415.html

Concerning security issues with many webbased php/mysql applications it would be great if php5-mysqli will reach dapper as fast as possible. Prepared statements for example offers you a great feature to secure applications.

It is a major severity from my point of view, as many of my apps won't run without it and the only way I found to use mysqli is not using the ubuntu version and compilling php5 myself.
This is a bad thing as it messes dpkg. php5 is an important package with a lot of packages depending on it.

this would break any app made using the mysqli library. Wich is a standard for current php verssion.

Using apache2 / mysql5 / php5 is a great solution when you develop new projects, for future... but for now, it's a nightmare because of the lack of php5-mysqli...

i have to do "bad" things to get it, it would better having it directly from ubuntu...

Still not in Dapper as of April 19. Is this forthcoming before the release?

In dapper beta release announce I read:

Turn-key LAMP installation

however without mysqli extension important features are missing :-(

Not only does it not install with the "Turn-Key LAMP installation", you can't find it with APT either. Even if you install the server manually, installing each requirement one-by-one on top of a clean "Server Install", you still cannot install mysqli.

Why? This extension is extremely important and could easily be added!

I third and fourth the request for this. Just ran into something at work that required it. Dapper's out soon, this should be in here.

Hm , I ran into the same Problem. I need it urgently for my business, but it still isn't there!

Though I'm sure this has been mentioned in the forums already: the apt repository

deb http://packages.dotdeb.org stable all

has the mysqli module and other stable PHP5 packages. Any way at least the mysqli package could be ported from these?

I'm using these now at work, and they work just fine. Possibly faster.

I need it, too.
I hope it will be in Dapper before it is released.

This package works great here.

Eduardo: Assigning it to yourself might make more sense if:

A) You were the maintainer of the PHP packages.
B) You had rights to upload to the archive and "fix" this.

MySQLi will be included in the 5.1.4 release I'm preparing, and the fact that Matt Zimmerman assigned this bug to me with an Ubuntu 6.06 goal means that it WILL get done for dapper.

I'm sorry for that, I may have done this in an impulse to see things done. Maybe I shoul be more pacient. I'm kinda new to this packaging things. If I thought that the binary package is enough, but now I learned that this should be done as a source package. If I manage to get the source package done I'll follow it to you.
Thanks again.
