I have the same problem, I can't see the html editor and when I change some text in the article and save put undefined but no my text. When I go to the article, firefox said to me that I need a plugin to see all the page fine but without name and no find anything.
I had the problem with ubuntu 8.10 and I have just upgraded to 9.04 and exactly the same problem.
About the java plugin, I have checked with sun-java6-jre and I have just now openjdk and icedtea.
