Bug Description

Environment: IBM x346 (Type 8840-2AG) with ServeRAID 7k (FW: 7.12.13), Gutsy amd64 was installed, upgraded via do-release-upgrade to hardy 8.04 LTS.

Problem: Booting the recent kernel 2.6.24-19 (also -18) produces a system hang while initializing the "ips" driver. Console output is as follows:
ips: 0000:08:0e.0: Reset Request - Flushed Cache
This message repeats until the machine is switched off.

Booting the 2.6.22-14 kernel from gutsy shows no problem at all, boots happily into hardy and starts up the userland.

Hi Karsten,

The Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Beta was just released. Would you be able to test this latest Beta release via a LiveCD just to confirm if this is still an issue in the actively developed release - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/beta ? We'll need to get a fix applied to the actively developed Intrepid kernel first (or confirm it's not an issue with Intrepid) before a backport to Hardy can be done. If the issue still exists, per the kernel team's bug policy, can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback.

Just downloading the image.
System configuration attached as requested (from the running 2.6.22 kernel, of course)

Ok, the intrepid ibex -generic kernel from the adm64 server install cd runs like a charm.
Here are the logs from this run:

This bug applies to ServeRaid 6M too, it seems that it's related to this post:
http://marc.info/?l=linux-scsi&m=120303487528875&w=2

I alredy saw this bug in OpenSuSE and it seems that was resolved with kernel 2.6.25.

I hope that you can suggest a quick fix for 8.04 LTS installer, because this bug means that 8.04 LTS (and 8.04.1 LTS too) will not install on any 64 bit IBM xSeries that have a SCSI Raid controller (5i, 6i, 6i+, 6m, 7k) !!!

Thanks for testing Intrepid. I'm marking this "Fix Released" for Intrepid and have opened a Hardy nomination. Thanks.

Thanks, Leann.
Does this mean, that the kernel or driver from interpid will be in hardy-updates or hardy-backports in a while?
