Bug Description

The main gnome menu in Intrepid has these arrows to the right of a folder. I think they looked different in hardy and I know that many people in many forums have complained about them.

It's just aesthetical but I think it would be nicer to have some folder icon instead, I actually forgot how it looked like in hardy.

The menu items with arrows to the right have sub-menus attached. There is an icon to the left of the item. Hardy looks almost the same but but in Intrepid, the arrow font is heavier. I have obviously misunderstood what the problem is because I think things are just far as they are. May be you could include a link to some of these forum posts....

Obviously, it doesn't have a very high priority. I just thought it looked different on intrepid compared to hardy (can't check it anymore). Maybe I was just irritated by the heavier font.

Thanks for the links Bernhard.

The first might well describe a genuine bug. It refers to the top/bottom arrows that appear in menus when they are too long to fit onto the screen; the reported behaviour is that the menu length is fine but the arrows appear and you have to scroll up/down to see all the menu entries. I'll have a hunt around to see if that bug had been reported before.

The second refers to the small down arrow you get on the "Menu Bar" panel applet icon. It is there I assume, to hint that the icon is actually a menu but some folks obviously don't like it.

Again, I'm sorry if I misunderstand what you wrote, but neither of these sound like what you reported.

What would you like to do with this bug report?

OK, sorry for keeping you busy because of such a small thing. Let me put it like this:

Regarding these arrows in the main menu, I preferred the hardy font over the intrepid font. So I guess this is a wish/enhancement. I would like to have the hardy look back in this particular case, the other one caught my eye (in a negative sense). :)

marking as wishlist. I am not sure if this is an Ubuntu or a Gnome change, so I am keeping a Corfirmed.

those changes should be discussed upstream, could somebody open the bug on bugzilla.gnome.org too?

Here's an attachment to make sure we're all talking about the same arrows :).

And they're not just this big in the main menu, it's in all the GTK+ menus, e.g. the right click menu of the desktop, the context menu of NetworkManager, etc.

In gnome 2.22 it was nice.
