Bug Description
Binary package hint: debian-installer
The installer of the alternate cd of Ubuntu daily image intrepid, hangs in an endless loop, while trying to find the disc named 'ubuntu 8.10 - alfa', while i'm trying to install the beta, so it should look for another disc.
This occurs during the installation of the base-system. Because it can't find the disc, the installation fails.
Happened with the 30-09-2008 disc, and the 04-10-2008 disc.
While installing the base System from the ubuntu- 8.10-rc- alternate- amd64.iso the installer says
"Please insert the disc labeled: 'Ubuntu 8.10 _Intrepid Ibex_ -Release Candidate amd64 (20081022)' in the drive '/cdrom/' and press enter."
But the requested disc is (presumably) already in the drive! Pressing <Contune> reverts to <Go Back> (Media Change), and vice versa. The OP describes it as an endless loop, and there is indeed no way other way to proceed with the installation.
My hardware: an older desktop computer with AMD Opteron 165 processor, a SATA2 HD and an ATAPI (IDE) CD/DVD writer, on which I have successfully installed various versions of Ubuntu (starting with Dapper) and Debian (starting with Sarge), always using/preferring the Debian installer to do so.
